Rapido announces N SD70MAC locomotives

Rapido Trains has announced an N scale EMD SD70MAC locomotive covering late-production Tier-1 units and Metra’s SD70MACH rebuilds—both firsts in N plastic—plus a wide spread of nose, cab, and road-specific detail variations.

N features include multiple nose and cab lighting arrangements (nose light, high headlight, Gyralite), railroad- and era-appropriate PTC antennas where applicable, working headlights, ditch lights, and extra lights, factory-installed grabs and handrails, a heavy die-cast chassis with dual flywheels, MoPower capacitor, DC/DCC ready or Dual-Mode sound, and an 11″ suggested minimum radius. Metra units add a faux LED Gyralite plus marker and emergency lights, HEP, and end buffers; Alaska units get HEP shell details; CSX units include the Eco-Trans APU rear hood arrangement, with road-specific horns and roof detail across the lineup.

Schemes include Alaska Railroad (standard and 100th anniversary), BN Executive, BNSF swoosh patch and H3 SD70MACe rebuilds, Colorado Pacific, CSX YN3 variants (as-built and rebuild), Metra SD70MACH (including a later America 250 option), and additional roads shown on the product page. EMD’s AC-traction SD70MAC entered service in 1993 and became a Powder River / heavy-haul staple for BN/BNSF, with later Tier-1 flared CSX and Alaska HEP variants and Metra’s Progress Rail SD70MACH rebuilds for Chicago commuter service.

Order deadline and delivery are TBA on dealer listings; pre-order through Rapido or dealers.
