Kato USA has added CIT Group (CBTX) and General American (GATX) road names to its newly tooled N scale Greenbrier 30,500-gallon DOT-117 tank car line. Each offering is an 8-car set at a $160 MSRP, matching the earlier GBRX packaging.
CBTX Set A (106-4803) and Set B (106-4804) cover reporting marks in the 744850–744961 range. GATX Set A (106-4805) and Set B (106-4806) cover 240355–240642. Kato lists magnetic knuckle couplers, blackened metal wheels, underframe detail, and flexible handrails/piping on the new tooling.
The prototype Greenbrier cars follow post-2015 DOT-117 tank-car rules aimed at flammable liquids traffic—thicker tank steel, thermal protection, and better top-fitting protection than older DOT-111 cars.
Kato shows the CBTX and GATX sets arriving March 2027, with pre-orders through hobby retailers.
