InterMountain has announced N scale EMD SD40-2 locomotives in three patriotic schemes: Reading & Northern Semiquincentennial USA 250th #1776 (693102), Milwaukee Road Bicentennial #156 (693103), and Burlington Northern Spirit of ’76 #1876 (693104). Each is a single road number, offered DC/DCC-ready or with ESU LokSound 5.
Road-specific details include illuminated ditch lights on the RBMN unit (era 2025+); a small fuel tank, 81″ nose with brake ratchet, and early radiator grilles on the Milwaukee Road unit (era 1975+); and a large fuel tank with the same 81″ nose and early radiator arrangement on the BN unit (era 1975+).
N features include railroad-specific molded and etched-metal details, etched metal screens, separately applied parts, wire-formed grab irons, sharp painting and lettering, operating couplers, and InterMountain precision metal wheelsets. DC models use a DC-only board and are DCC ready. Sound units use an ESU LokSound 5 Micro Slide-In decoder with road-name-specific flashing ditch lights where applicable. MSRP is $189.95 DC and $299.95 with DCC and sound.
Dealer pre-order deadlines are July 31, 2026, with delivery estimates into 2027.
