Broadway Limited has announced N scale ARA/AAR 70-ton 4-bay (quad) hoppers in uniquely numbered 6-packs.
N features include fine rivet detail inside and out, wire grab irons, separately applied brake line and hoses, Ajax/Miner brake housing options with matching brake wheels, metal wheelsets, Micro-Trains-compatible knuckle couplers, and a removable ABS coal load over a fully detailed bay interior. Cars are compatible with Code 55/70/80 track (9.75″ minimum radius). MSRP is $129.99 per 6-pack.
Schemes include B&O W2b “13 Great States” and Big “B&O” (A/B packs), C&O H7-13 black & white (A/B), Milwaukee Road oxide red (A/B), ATSF oxide red (A/B), UP “Streamliners / Serves All The West” (A/B), a mixed B&O/C&O/MILW variety pack, and an unlettered black pack. B&O, C&O, and Milwaukee Road packs follow prototype-inspired lettering; ATSF and UP are popular-road fantasy decorations.
The ARA/AAR 70-ton quad hopper was a common North American coal and aggregate car, with nearly 12,000 built between 1926 and 1930.
