Atlas has announced Master N EMD GP40 locomotives as part of its Spring 2026 HO & N catalog, with new paint schemes on the existing Master GP40 tooling.
New schemes on the Atlas listing include CSX (ex-RFP), GATX Leasing (GCSX), Grand Trunk, MBTA, Metra, Norfolk Southern, SOO, Utah Railway, Wheeling & Lake Erie, and AAR. Silver (sound-ready) and Gold (ESU LokSound) versions are listed. Model features Atlas claims for the GP40 include directional lighting, walkway safety tread, blackened metal wheels, Scale Speed motor, AccuMate knuckle couplers, dynamic brakes where appropriate by railroad, and golden-white LEDs.
EMD built 1,145 GP40s between 1966 and 1972 as 3,000 hp turbocharged road switchers. Atlas notes the three full-size radiator fans on the long-hood roof as the quick visual cue versus a GP38.
Pre-order deadline for the Spring 2026 catalog items is April 15, 2026. Atlas’s production schedule points to 4th Quarter 2026 delivery.
